Maurice Berens is the Liberal candidate in The Pas constituency

Maurice Berens is our Liberal candidate in The Pas. His mother, Mary Ross, is from Norway House. Maurice grew up in The Pas, attending Opasquia School and Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute. After graduation, Maurice worked in many places in northern Manitoba. From 2005-2008 he taught at Cross Lake. His brother Jake works as the General Manager of Concrete Operations for the Opaskwayak Cree Nation.

Maurice is passionate about northern Manitoba. He has a Bachelor of Arts (Honuors) in Canadian History and Native History from the Unviersity of Winnipeg. He followed this with a Bachelor of Education, and has taught in various areas of northern Manitoba being among the first to include Native Issues courses in high school.

Before he began teaching he worked for several years in the mine in Thompson and spent two years as a policy and research analyst dealing with natural resources and other issues with MKO.

His broad background and wide experience in northern Manitoba and his connections to The Pas, Cross Lake and Norway House make him an ideal candidate to become the next MLA in The Pas constituency.

Maurice is particularly concerned with jobs and opportunities for people in the north, with the need for improved roads, and better recreational facilities and improved health care and education for people in The Pas constituency. "There is a great deal that needs to be done in this area," said Maurice in annoucing his candidacy.
