Selinger still determined to waste Half a Billion Dollars

Ever since he because Premier, Greg Selinger has persisted in his view that there is a need to spend half a billion dollars to use a process called BNR to remove nitrogen from the City of Winnipeg's sewage. $350 million is in capital costs with $180 million more in operating costs over the next 20 years. Last fall when asked he said it was to protect the Beluga Whale in Hudson's Bay - a claim now proved bogus. Since then he has turned to using the need to remove ammonia as his excuse to spend half a billion dollars. While ammonia must be removed, the City of Winnipeg has already put in place digested sludge centrate treatment and then followed this with addition process adjustments and some bioaugmentation. These changes are now successfully removing ammonia as shown in the article below:

Today I pushed Premier Selinger in question period, but he remains adamant in his position. He continues to be uninformed on what is happening and is continuing to pursue spending more than half a billion dollars which is not needed. It is sad that the relatively new Premier is so badly falling down in looking after the financial and environmental needs of Manitobans.
