Doug Connery 1955-2011 - a tribute
Doug Connery: This afternoon, I attended the funeral of Doug Connery in Portage la Prairie. It was particularly sad day, since Doug was only 56 years old, at the peak of his career and had been a major leader in the effort to deal with various issues this year related to the Flood of 2011. He was a pillar in the community of Portage la Prairie. I met Doug many times over the years and have a lot of respect for him, his role as a major vegetable grower in Manitoba and Canada, and his leadership in relation to the Flood this year.
In recent years, Doug, who was named the young farmer of the year in 1990, has run the business operations of Connery Riverdale Farms and has served as President of the Canadian Horticultural Council and President of the Vegetable Growers Association of Manitoba.
Doug and his family had a cottage at Delta Beach, and he was active there serving as President of the Delta Beach Association and as a Director of the Association of Lake Manitoba Stakeholders.
Doug had a good sense of humour, but he was also a tough negotiator who loved to make things happen. We will miss you Doug.
